Code.org

Today we worked on code.org activities and i didn't really enjoy them. I found them pointless and kind of boring, but nonetheless i finished one of them, and started another.

Part 1 Stop motion video.

Yesterday Braiden and I started filming our Stop Motion video in his garage. We brainstormed ideas on how to make our house of cards, and how high the card tower will be. After some frustration and discussion we chose a 6 card 4 card then two card standard tower. We set up our base and camera mount, eventually finishing the day by filming the intro. This is what we have so far.

Stop Motion Idea.

Braiden and I have decided to make our stop motion a video of the building of a house of cards. We will also be deconstructing the house of cards by burning it to the ground. To start off we will show the deck and then slowly take the cards out, and begin to build our house level by level. The background we will use will be an opened cardboard box so the background will never change. The camera we will use will be the camera built into our Samsung Galaxy phones, considering the fact that they have a rapid photo mode. We got the idea from a few videos such as this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVoqud4B50Y. We are unsure if we are going to use a cell phone app or not but if we do it will be to put the pictures together.

Exchange picture 5

This picture  was taken just out of Nipigon on "Polly Lake" Canada day weekend. From Nipigon we take a fifteen minute quad ride down Cameron falls road to a boat launch on the Nipigon River. Usually me and my friends take a 14 ft long boat down the River too the mouth that opens into "Lake Helen". Lake Helen runs along highway 11 and connects to Polly lake. Polly lake is used mostly throughout the summer months as a place for people in the Nipigon area to go camp and get away. There's about 72 camps on Polly, including a public beach, and boat launch for people just looking for a day of fun. Throughout the summer me and my friends try to spend as much time as we can on Polly fishing. The fish caught in Polly are usually big pike, pickerel, and perch.

Exchange Picture 4

This is a photo i took of an older picture sitting around my house. The original was taken in my old house, with my first dog "Jam". Jam was in my family from when i was a year old to 11. We were best friends and did everything together, from walking to the store to getting scared during storms she was right there. The reason i included her into our Canadian culture Exchange is because she was such a big part of my childhood, and i think that's good for the people reading my blog to know a little about how i got to where i am now. I have had 3 dogs since Jam but she will always be my favorite dog because she was always there.

Exchange Picture 3

This picture was taken on the "Bald Spot" with my pet dog Jasper. The Bald Spot is what we call the mountain that overlooks my town of Nipigon. The reason we call it the Bald Spot is because where I am standing on the mountain there is no trees that grow and its just flat rock. This is during our spring season where the snow was slowly melting. This represents Canadian culture because our winter's are always very long and full of snow.

Exchange second Picture

This picture was taken at Loftquist Lake, ontop of the mountain looking over the lake. Loftquist is located just outside of Nipigon where i live, and is a very important part of everyone's life. In the summer there is a public beach and a floating dock where anyone who wants to cool off can go. Me and my friends also use the lake to go boating, tubing, and knee boarding.  The spring and winter season is the best time for fishing, where we can catch Speckled Trout, Walleye, And "Splake's". During the winter when the lake freezes over we can go ice fishing, and catch the same fish. The day i took this picture me and my friends took a trail up the front of Loftquist mountain and enjoyed the view.

Picture 1 for exchange

This picture was taken on a -31 degrees Celsius winter day, approximately 45 minutes away from our school in Red Rock. It is of my "Camp". In northern Ontario a Camp is a small house or cabin away from your real home. Usually located on a lake, or on a bush road, camp is a place to get away from the in town life and relax. My camp is located on lake Superior and is owned by my Mom's parents, my grandparents. Since the winter season in our area is so cold we only go to camp in the spring and summer months. The camp is enjoyed by all my aunts, uncles, and cousins on my Moms side of the family. What we do at camp consists of fishing, swimming, quading, and having saunas. I am assuming most of the people reading this know what a sauna is but for people who don't, a sauna is a small room with a special stove inside to get the room up to very high temperatures. We use the sauna in our bathing suits, and once hot or sweaty enough we jump into the cold water to cool down and run back into the sauna for warmth again. Having a sauna is one of the most relaxing and stress relieving activities you can do. "Quading" is what I call the use of 4 wheeled off road vehicles to go riding through trails, small creeks, and just go exploring. The reason i chose a picture of my camp is because i spend half of the year here since i was just a baby, and it is a very important piece of my life.

Angles & Different Positioning

This is an eye level angle photo, you can tell because the eyes are the center of the photo.

This is a low angled shot. I chose low angle over high angle, because I didn't want to stand on something and hurt myself in class.

This is an example of a oblique angle. I slanted the camera and Braiden tilted his head.

This is an example of mega-zoom. I put the camera close to his face so the phone was touching his forehead.

Mozilla app maker first impression

For the last few days our class has been working with mozilla's app maker. When you first open the site you get to this page, and then you're on your own to navigate the site and make an app. When I got to this i had no idea what to do, then i noticed the demo video available in the top right of the screen. When you click this it brings you to a video that explains how to make a firework app. When i tried for some reason it did not work. In my opinion the app would be a lot easier to work if each widget on the left side had a small description on how they work, and their purpose to each app. Another way this app could be more use full is if there was another demo video on how to download the app onto your own devices. All in all this is a good base model site that has potential to be huge.

Today i decided to enhance the colours and edit a picture i took yesterday. I used picmonkey.com to sharpen it, warm the colours, and straiten it. here is the before and after, its not super clear but really shows the colour.

Nature walk

Today my media arts class went on a walk around the bush in Redrock taking pictures for #anfomhar. I used my yellow point effect on my camera and no more effects and this is how it turned out. Im pretty happy about it.

Creation of Adam

The creation of Adam uses emphasis, line, and variety to make it one of the most important peices of the renaissance time. The variety in this artwork isn't in the colour or design of the peice but in the placement of the characters. On the left side there is a single  person sitting on a rock but on the right side pointing at the other man is god. Who is dressed in a robe and has at least five people surrounding him in the background. The Emphasis and line are used in almost the same way to complete the artwork. There is emphasis on the muscles and figure of the two characters. This was one of Michelangelo's trademarks in most of his artwork. He makes the men in the perfect image with detailed muscles and features. Some say this is because he was homosexual. The way he can make the muscles and features is by a mixture of straight curved and detailed lines. The lines that are more curved are found in the abdomen of the man on the left.

The way I interpret this piece is that God is on the right and Adam on the left. It looks like God has is reaching from heaven to touch Adam almost like making the final touches on his creation. The people surrounding him could be angels or Adams relatives that are helping god to create Adam.
.

I added the last picture as one final joke before summer.

Portfolio interview questions.

My favourite project was definitely my paint splatter one because I didn't have to follow any rules or direction I could just do what I wanted to do. My least favorite project was the 2 point perspective. I didn't like this one because I can't draw very good and I tried 7 times to make one and it didn't work. I can't thing of one project that taught me the most but what I did learn from the tile project is that you can paint clear glaze over any paint on the tile and once it's fired it won't show up. Taking part in relay for life changed my definition of art a little. The way it changed it is that I now believe art is something that benefits not just the artist but the people who purchase it and the people around the artwork.

Paint splatter analysis

The main qualities that my painting has is colour, texture,  and variety. Colour shines through this peice. In the middle of the painting there is light and warm colours. Mostly light green,  red, and yellow. As you slowly move away from the center to the outer edges of the painting the colours change to cold and dark colours. Mostly purple, dark blue,  and teal. With some dark red.  My whole painting has extreme texture. Since I used drywall puddy and made lines and lumps on the board, some paint sticks out more then others. The paint that lays on top of the puddy bulges is raised and catches the eye A lot more than the splatter laying on the flat part of the board. Since I splattered the paint instead of using brush strokes the paint skips across the wood in random lines and shapes making the texture unpredictable.  The amount of variety in this peice is very well. There is variety in the amount of paint from the center to the outside of the painting. In the center there is more think drops and very tight together. As you move to the outside of the painting the drops are more separated and almost spastic lines and techniques.

In the end this artwork was definitely my favourite project.

Sistine Chapel First Impression

My first impression of this piece is that it looks "simple". It lacks excitement and isn't very eye catching. I understand it took time and a lot of effort to make, but it just doesn't appeal to me.

First day of splatter

On last Thursday I finally started splattering paint on my peice of wood. I used mostly a icing spreader for cake and tempra or watered down acrylic paint. It worked really good but came out as just splatters and not as many lines like Jackson pollock did. Tomorrow when I start again I'm goin to use a small strainer and let the watered down paint slowly drip through and try and make more of a pattern. I'm thinking lighter colours in the middle and darker as I move farther away from the center of the peice.

Primer over the puddy

At lunch I started priming over the puddy bumps. The texture is very noticeable and I'm excited to start painting.

Drywall puddy on painting.

Today me and Cole made more texture and bumps on my peice of wood for tomorrow when I start painting.

Painting new ideas.

Today I looked on the museum of modern art app for the ipad and found some new ideas. I have really wanted to splatter paint on a large canvas and this project is the one I get to do. I'm thinking of new ways to use color schemes but what I known now is that these images are what my idea is based on

Painting first stages.

I first started using a black canvas with the colors blue and orange. I realized it wouldn't look very good so I used a white canvas and painted the first two sections plain red. Today I'll decide on the next colors.

Finished mug.

Yesterday I finished my mug. To me it could have been more successful.  If I could do it over I would probably try more techniques and try and use the wheel to make it.

Clay Mug

Today I got further with my mug. I added the bottom and fixed up the handle. Jean Marc and Clearwater helped me a lot

clay art

We have recently started our clay art project of making mugs. With a lot of working and plugging my nose I got the recycled clay to the right consistency to work. I made many attempts at using the wheel but I just couldn't get the hang of it. Here's a picture before it broke.

French Revolution Idea

I started making an outline for my presentation on Prezi. Once i learn more about the art and the revoloution i will be able to expand, this is just a rough idea. I also think that having school Voice thread accounts would be a VERY good idea. It can be used for so many things and my first idea was to use it, before i realized you need a teaching or school account. If we already have school accounts then i think it would be good for students to be taught how to use them.
